Onondaga County bringing in additional ambulances to help local hospitals

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon announced a contract to bring additional ambulance support into the area.

The National Ambulance Contract has been activated for Syracuse and Onondaga County to ensure hospital capacity remains manageable for local hospitals.

Beginning on Friday, ambulances and personnel will come to the New York State Fairgrounds. Additional ambulances will be deployed as necessary.

The personnel can also be used to support emergency departments in area hospitals. The initial deployment is for 30 days, with the option for additional 30-day deployments.

The NAC will work with local hospitals to prioritize the transportation of patients to other hospitals both in the region and statewide. Officials say the activation helps to prioritize transfers throughout the state and balance the patient load.
