Oneida County officials issue warning after drug overdoses

The Oneida County Overdose Response Team are warning the public after two people died within 24 hours from using what they suspect was tainted cocaine.

The deaths both happened Saturday in the city of Utica.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths are leading officials to believe cocaine laced with fentanyl may have played a role.

Six of the drug-related toxicology reports done so far in have detected a mix of both cocaine and fentanyl.

The Overdose Response Team is encouraging people to talk with loved ones struggling with substance abuse about resources available to them, and steps they can take to prevent an overdose.
