As we all know, February is considered by many to be ‘The Month of Love’. Long before the advent of Valentine’s Day however, ancient cultures viewed February as a time of fertility, a time of celebration when birds choose their mates and ewes begin to lamb. Thus, in this month’s herbal study group, we will pay tribute to this love-filled time of year by discussing herbal aphrodisiacs — herbs that increase arousal, enhance sensitivity and increase stamina — as well as herbs that simply lift your mood by influencing the production of endorphins (the brain’s ‘feel good’ chemicals) and more. There’s a good chance that you will already have some of these herbs in your own kitchen!
Hillary-Joy Pitoniak will lead the class. She is a certified herbalist and current resident of the Northeast Herbal Association.

Greetings winter outdoor adventurers!
I go cross-country skiing nearly every day after my workday, on, around, and beyond Old Path Farm land. I’m inviting anyone that would like to join me to start with me from my house (*9148 Butler Road, Sauquoit*) any ski-able Thursday evening this winter.
*STARTING THIS THURSDAY, JANUARY 29th AT 5PM.*
Some things to know about this invitation:
- You do not need to be an expert but you do need to already have your own cross-country skis. Actually, I have one extra pair (my daughter’s) for a ~5’3 – 5’7″ woman shoe size 5, that you might borrow if that fits you.
- This is very much a dog-friendly experience for friendly dogs. I have two and they will always come along (and will be out of their minds with joy that you are coming).
- This is back-country cross-country skiing. There are no groomed trails. I will lead the group on a route that is easier or more challenging based on the skill level & appetite of who’s there. I know every nook & cranny, hill & field in and around these woods. If you have the narrower xc skis designed for groomed tracks, they will still work; it’ll just be slightly more challenging, but not bad.
- If you prefer snowshoeing, you’re welcome to bring those and do that. (I have two pairs that anyone could borrow — they’re size adjustable.) But that would have to be a separate group, ideally with someone who’s a little experienced leading it, because snowshoeing and xc skiing just go at different speeds.
- In the dark?! Yep! Actually, your eyes adjust and it’s actually not that dark at all with the bright white snow. You’d be surprised. But headlamps are welcome.
- I go in almost any weather. Frankly, my dogs demand it 😉 If there is snow and it’s not raining, I will go. This is my passion and (partly) my land and I want to share it with you.
- Please feel free to share this invitation with anyone you think might be interested!
- Please respond by email or text ahead of time to let me know if you’re thinking of coming any given Thursday: stephen.ah.grove@gmail.com / 315-580-1652. I can also put you on my own text or email list if you want to get reminders from me in the future about this.
- Any and all questions welcome. Including if you’re like, “I’d love to do this, if it was at a different day/time.” As I mentioned, I go nearly every day; I’ll make whatever work for you. Text or email me.
