NYC Offers 350 Free Marathon Finish-Line Tickets: Enter by Oct. 26

NEW YORK CITY: You do not have to run 26.2 miles to share in the excitement at the New York City Marathon finish line. The city is offering 350 free grandstand tickets through a drawing announced Thursday, October 22, for those interested in NYC marathon free tickets.

The seats are for watching the Sunday, November 1, 2026, TCS New York City Marathon in Central Park. They are spectator tickets, not entries to run the race. Don’t miss your chance to get NYC marathon free tickets!

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani announced the giveaway in partnership with New York Road Runners, the nonprofit that organizes the marathon. The mayor’s October 22 announcement says entries close Monday, October 26, at 11:59 p.m. Be sure to enter for your chance at NYC marathon free tickets!

What the free tickets cover

The grandstands line the final 200 meters of the course. They offer a place to watch runners make their last push toward the finish after traveling through the city’s five boroughs.

Grandstand tickets typically start at $55, according to the city. Selected applicants can receive up to two free tickets. That does not mean 350 people will each receive a pair: the announcement offers 350 tickets in total.

City Hall says nearly 60,000 runners are expected to take part, with more than 2 million spectators and fans cheering them on. Those are advance expectations, not a count of attendance at an event that has already happened.

How to enter the drawing

  • Entry link: Use the city’s official marathon ticket drawing link.
  • Deadline: Monday, October 26, at 11:59 p.m., as stated in the city announcement.
  • Age: Applicants must be at least 18. If selected, their second ticket can be for a guest of any age.
  • Selection: Winners will be notified shortly after the deadline. The announcement does not give an exact notification date.
  • Event: Sunday, November 1, at the marathon’s Central Park finish line.

The announcement describes the drawing as open to “New Yorkers,” but does not spell out whether that includes residents outside New York City. Mohawk Valley readers should not assume they qualify solely because they live in New York State. Check the application’s eligibility rules before entering or making travel plans.

The giveaway is a drawing, not a promise of a seat to everyone who applies. The release does not specify arrival times, ticket delivery instructions or accessibility arrangements. Selected guests should follow the instructions that come with their tickets.

A milestone year for the five-borough race

The marathon began in 1970. This year marks the 50th anniversary of its five-borough course, according to the announcement. The route starts at the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and ends in Central Park.

“Every one of them deserves a crowd ready to cheer them home,” Mamdani said of the runners.

For a family watching a loved one finish, the giveaway could remove one cost from a memorable day. But readers should keep the distinction clear: these tickets provide a place to cheer, not a place on the starting line.
