No Kings Protest March 28, 2026

UTICA – On Saturday, March 28, 1,000 people in Rome, 1000+ in Utica, and hundreds more expected in Herkimer, joined thousands of peaceful protests across the nation for the third No Kings Day. Despite bitter wind and snow, participants demonstrated cheerful enthusiasm and displays of patriotism while voicing their opposition to President Trump’s continuing authoritarian power grabs using taxpayer money, while giving away money to billionaires as prices rise and services are slashed for ordinary people.

All the gatherings were filled with energetic and committed crowds chanting and singing. The Utica rally included a march down Genesee St. and guest speakers. Speakers in Utica gave passionate defenses of democracy and the need to rise to the moment in unity and with perseverance. They included Rabbi Peter Shaktman, Shana Dahlin, Erica Zalatan, Ace Morreale, Dr. Clem Harris, and Hawa Jibril.

Across the Mohawk Valley, local people attending the rallies mentioned multiple themes when asked why they participated today.

“We are protesting today not just because it is our first amendment right, but because it is our responsibility as Americans to voice our opposition to this illegal war, to ICE brutality, and to the corruption, grift and cover-up shielding the Epstein-billionaire class.” Jennifer, Rome

“I think it is important we have freedom of speech,” said a very cold Pippa in Rome. “So many things are wrong, and I want to stop the corrupt greediness by this administration under Trump. They are destroying this country, and I want it back.”

“I am here to bring joy. We can’t let this administration take away our rights, guaranteed by our constitution. This costume keeps me warm.” Costumed duck, Rome.

“We want our children to live in democracy, not dictatorship run by the wealthy. We are here so they can see what democracy can be.” From a family of three in Rome.”

“I am here because I know war sucks.” Bronze Star Vietnam Veteran, Paul, Whitesboro

“The defunding of public health is causing harm to children and the defunding of scientific medical research will cause long term harm.” Molly, young person,Utica

“I am concerned for my neighbors who are afraid for their relatives, here and in other areas of the country who cannot work, get groceries, or send their children to school because of fear of arrest and worse.” From a concerned neighbor in Rome.

Last October, more than seven million people across all 50 states joined No Kings in the largest single-day protest to date against President Trump’s authoritarianism.  The March 28th action continues the movement, reflecting the non-partisan majority of Americans who simply don’t believe in dictators–even for a day–and who believe in the Constitution and the rule of law; specifically, that no one is above it.

The Utica, Rome, and Herkimer No Kings rallies were sponsored by Indivisible Mohawk Valley and co-sponsored by  NAACP Rome Branch, Oneida County Pride Association, League of Women Voters Utica-Rome Metropolitan Area, Interfaith Coalition, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, Citizen Action NY Central NY Chapter.
