MORE: Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of new moms, and the risks can last for weeks and even months postpartum. In addition, Black women face a higher risk of developing high blood pressure, having a stroke or developing complications during or immediately after pregnancy. The New Mom Kits provide resources that are helpful to both mom and baby, including a self-monitoring blood pressure device for moms and an Infant CPR Kit so families can learn to resuscitate a newborn if sudden cardiac arrest strikes. The kit also includes information about available resources like Medicaid and WIC. The kit can help new moms feel empowered and equipped to manage their own health during pregnancy and postpartum and better care for their new baby after giving birth. As part of their mission, First Source Credit Union gives back to the community, and this year, chose to work with the American Heart Association to distribute the New Moms kits. Mosaic Health will determine which patients will best benefit from the kits.
