Mohawk Valley Community College will host a moderated discussion with local filmmaker Nick Sardina on his 10-episode docuseries, “Silence and Shame: The Murder of Kim Simon,” on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, from 11:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Schafer Theater, Wilcox Hall, at the College’s Utica Campus.
Sponsored by the MVCC Criminal Justice Club, the event is free and open to the public.
The docuseries explores the unsolved 1985 murder of 16-year-old Kim Simon, a student at Whitesboro High School. Sardina, a former classmate of Simon, spent five years researching and producing the series, revisiting the investigation, the conviction and later exoneration of Steven Barnes, and the people connected to the case. Featuring interviews with Simon’s family, investigators, and others, the docuseries also presents new information uncovered during the production process.
