MVCC selected as newest SUNY ATTAIN Lab site

UTICA, N.Y. — Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, N.Y., has been selected as a host site for a SUNY ATTAIN (Advanced Technology Training and Information Networking) Lab, a free community resource designed to support workforce readiness, career advancement, and higher education access for New York State residents.

SUNY ATTAIN Labs are community-based computer labs that provide free educational, occupational, and career development programs across New York State. Through self-paced courses and industry-recognized certifications, the labs use advanced technology training to strengthen skills in computer literacy, academic readiness, and job preparedness. MVCC joins 32 other ATTAIN Labs currently operating statewide.

The new ATTAIN Lab, scheduled to open this spring in the Academic Building at MVCC’s Utica Campus, will offer a wide range of academic, occupational, and employability courses geared toward high-demand skills in today’s technology-driven workforce. Programs will support individuals seeking to change careers, earn professional certifications, advance their education, or improve digital literacy — at no cost.

Available offerings will include ESOL and language learning, GED preparation, career exploration, and certifications such as Intuit QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Specialist, Microsoft Certified Fundamentals, and IC3 Digital Literacy. Participants will have free access to computers, high-speed internet, Wi-Fi-enabled technology, online training curricula, and virtual study resources. One-on-one assistance will be available to help users navigate courseware, select programs, and build essential digital and professional skills. A full-time lab coordinator will be hired to oversee operations and provide individualized support.

“In today’s uncertain, rapidly changing world with constant advances in artificial intelligence and technology, digital literacy is more important than ever,” said MVCC President Dr. Randall J. VanWagoner. “As the community’s college, MVCC is committed to providing opportunities for our region to learn and grow, and the ATTAIN Lab will help us expand that mission in meaningful ways.”

This year, SUNY ATTAIN is celebrating 25 years of expanding opportunity for New Yorkers through free technology training, digital literacy education, and career readiness support. Since its founding with financial support from the New York State Legislature, the program has strengthened communities, empowered learners, and connected thousands of residents to educational credentials and vocational pathways to sustainable employment across the state. Today, that mission continues to grow through its expansion to MVCC, home to the first ATTAIN lab in Oneida County.
