Mohawk Valley Community College and the Compassion Coalition are holding a Backpack Giveaway event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, in the Information Technology Building on MVCC’s Utica Campus. Five hundred backpacks were filled with school supplies for students in grades seven through 12, including items such as notebooks, a ruler, glue sticks, colored pencils, pens, markers, and crayons.

The event also will feature a guest speaker, MVCC Assistant Professor Brandon Shaw, who will provide information to students and parents on how to prepare for school in the fall.

Only one backpack will be given out per child, and the child must be present at the event and accompanied by an adult to receive their backpack. Supplies are limited, so students are asked to reserve a backpack by visiting https://bit.ly/2ui2K0w.

For more information, contact the MVCC Office for Student Engagement and Outreach at 315-792-5386.
