Munson to host BAM! Percussion at free Art Alive!

Utica, N.Y. — Munson will host its spring break free Art Alive! Family Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, featuring art-making activities for families in the Museum’s Root Court and an 11 a.m. performance and 1 p.m. workshop by BAM! Percussion in the Sinnott Family – Bank of Utica Auditorium. The Utica ZooMobile will also be set up in the Root Court from noon to 2 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Participate in hands-on art activities led by 2025–26 Artist-in-Residence Quincey Spagnoletti and the Munson Museum Education team, and get up close and personal with a fun animal experience with the Utica Zoo.

Enjoy the electrifying energy of comedy percussion with the BAM Percussion’s Blue Barrel Show. This vibrant performance ignites the stage with powerful rhythms and side-splitting sketches that leave audiences in stitches. The eccentric BAM characters, seemingly plucked straight from a zany cartoon, communicate in their own whimsical language, BAMspeech—a universal tongue understood by all, from toddlers to grandparents. BAM! Percussion has brought joy and laughter to audiences in over 30 countries, transcending language barriers and uniting people through the universal language of rhythm and humor. Get ready for a whirlwind of laughter and infectious beats that will leave you exhilarated and uplifted!

While you’re at the Museum, explore “Constellations: Works on Paper from Three Collections,” an exhibition planned and designed by Hamilton College students that brings together drawings, photographs, and graphic arts from Munson Museum of Art, the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art at Hamilton College, and the private collection of Michael and Lisa Shapiro. “Constellations” is on view in the Dr. William L. Boyle, Jr. Gallery until April 12.

Art Alive! Family Days at Munson are held during school breaks as a way of getting kids and their families connected and familiar with the Museum.

Funding for Art Alive! is provided by the MetLife Foundation, Utica National Foundation, Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, Sheila and Ron Cuccaro, and Rona Lucas, in memory of Roslyn and Irving Levine.
