Munson Fall Arts Classes Open Creative Doors for All Ages
Utica residents can explore painting, ceramics, sewing, animation and other creative skills through courses beginning in September.
UTICA, N.Y. — Registration is open for Munson fall arts classes, giving children, teenagers and adults an opportunity to develop creative skills in professional studios. Most classes begin the week of Sept. 14 at Munson and Pratt Munson facilities in Utica.
The fall Community Arts program includes drawing, painting, ceramics, jewelry-making, digital animation, illustration, knitting and sewing. Classes are designed for beginners as well as experienced artists seeking to strengthen their skills.
“Refresh your artistic spirit this fall with a Community Arts class at Munson,” the organization said in its Aug. 4 announcement.
Munson fall arts classes offer several ways to participate
The fall schedule is structured to serve people who may want anything from a brief introduction to a full semester of instruction.
According to Munson’s Community Arts program, course lengths include:
- Workshops lasting one to four sessions
- Mini-courses lasting four to six sessions
- Regular courses lasting eight to 12 sessions
- Children’s classes consisting of six sessions
- Teen classes with schedules that vary by subject
Some offerings focus on traditional fine-art skills. Others introduce crafts, design and digital tools.
Featured courses include Oil Painting Portraiture and Munson Museum Master Copies. Beginners can also consider Fashion Sewing for Beginners or a jewelry class focused on creating stacked rings and bracelets.
That range matters because not every student enters an art class with the same goal. Some participants may be building a portfolio. Others may want a creative activity after work, an engaging class for a child or a chance to meet people with similar interests.

Munson lists the following general age groups:
- Art Explorations I for ages 4 and 5
- Art Explorations II for ages 6 through 8
- Young Artists for ages 9 through 12

- Selected adult courses open to students 16 and older

Munson advises applicants to submit their requests well before the desired class begins. Applications are considered on a rolling, first-come basis until scholarship funds are depleted. Applicants are generally notified within three weeks.
