Upstate University Hospital has suspended or terminated approximately 113 state employees who did not receive a COVID-19 vaccine by the New York state vaccination mandate deadline Monday, according to the hospital’s public relations office.
Most of the employees that have been suspended are also facing termination, which will be decided through a series of disciplinary hearings currently underway.
Hospital representatives say that unvaccinated employees still have an opportunity to reverse suspensions by complying with the mandates now in place. Meanwhile, Upstate representatives say the hospital is continuing to assess the impact of its staffing losses and is amending schedules for operations and services as needed.
The Upstate University Hospital vaccination rate is 96%.
