MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. — Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Madison County is accepting applications for its upcoming Master Gardener Volunteer (MGV) Training Program.
This regional training opportunity will be offered in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension Oneida County and will begin in October 2026.
The Master Gardener Volunteer Program helps like-minded individuals connect with their community as they expand their gardening knowledge and horticultural skills. Master Gardener Volunteers help their neighbors improve quality of life by combining local experience with university research. A vital part of the community, they support the stewardship of gardens and landscapes, promote food security, and encourage environmental sustainability through educational programs and community outreach.
Much of the regional training will take place on scheduled Saturdays at the Oneida Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Training will continue throughout the winter months and into spring. Participants will receive instruction from Cornell Cooperative Extension educators and subject matter experts on a variety of topics, including plant science, soils, vegetable gardening, native plants, sustainable gardening practices, and other horticulture-related subjects.
As a culminating project, participants will develop and present a short educational program at the CCE Madison Teaching Garden for community members and fellow Master Gardener Volunteers. Participants will select a horticultural topic of interest and demonstrate the knowledge and skills gained through their training.
The training fee is $175 and will be due upon acceptance into the program. Accepted applicants will also be required to complete a background check. Scholarships are available upon request.
Applications must be submitted by September 30, 2026.
