Utica, NY—A hotly-contested Utica School Board race ended last night with two winners, Tennille Knoop and James Paul. The decision was announced last night, at around 10 PM by the Clerk of the Board of Elections. The final tally for votes earned by each candidate was 1,516 for James Paul and 1,377 for Tennille Knoop.
In addition to the election of Tennille Knoop and James Paul, the $213.5 million school budget passed 2438-649 and the Proposition also passed 1978-997.
According to News Channel 2, roughly 6,100 people voted in the election, which was an increase from recent years.
The two seats awarded to Knoop and Paul replace those held by Jack Lomedico and David Testa. Per reporting previously done by the Daily Sentinel, Paul stated that he believes the District can do better and deserves better, and he wants to focus on more transparency and input from both parents and teachers. Knoop stated discussed her desire to be there for the children 100%, and that the new budget afforded opportunities to make an example for the children and other districts.
