Local Alligators to Make Their Media Debut at Animal Adventure Park
AAP to officially introduce Whitney and Lisle, announce what’s next for the park’s alligator population
HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. – August 18, 2017 – Animal Adventure Park, home of April, Oliver, and Tajiri, is excited to introduce our local media partners to the park’s newest celebrities – alligators Whitney and Lisle, who were captured in Broome County.
A media event will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 21. Broome County Executive Jason Garnar will be on hand to celebrate the occasion and present Animal Adventure Park with a citation for its work in providing these animals with a safe and appropriate environment.
Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch says that environment will soon be bigger and better.
“In a matter of weeks, our alligator population has nearly doubled,” Jordan Patch, owner of Animal Adventure Park, said. “It’s time to break ground on a new space to better exhibit our reptilian friends.”
At Monday’s media event, Patch will announce more details of a brand new alligator exhibit, coming to the park for the 2018 season.
Reports of alligator sightings in the Whitney Point area swarmed social media this summer. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation captured the first alligator on July 29 behind the fairgrounds in Whitney Point. The alligator, named Whitney, measures 39 inches in length.
After the capture of the first alligator, further sightings continued. The NYS DEC captured the second alligator on August 8, about a quarter mile north from the area where the first alligator was caught. The alligator, now known as Lisle, measures 45 inches in length.
The DEC says both alligators are between two and four years of age.
