Variety of actors sought for holiday comedy
ILION, NY – The Ilion Little Theatre will hold auditions for the comedy The Christmas Spirit – Sunday, October 8 at 6:30 p.m. and Monday, October 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the theatre.
Written by Frederick Stroppel and directed by Charlene Lyon, The Christmas Spirit infuses comedy into the classic Death Takes a Holiday. Set in contemporary Long Island, Julia Dowling has an unexpected visitor who intends to escort her off to the afterlife. Persuading Death to give her one more day to enjoy Christmas, Julia invites him to be her guest at a festive party. The next day the house fills with bickering relatives, friends, the local priest – and Death, masquerading as a human, singing carols and drinking egg nog.
Five males and four females are sought for a variety of roles.
The performance dates for The Christmas Spirit will be December 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10. The Christmas Spirit continues the Little Theatre’s 2017-2018 production season.
The Ilion Little Theatre is located at 13 Remington Ave in the Village of Ilion, directly behind Remington Arms.
Ilion Little Theatre. Ilion Little Theatre has entertained residents of the Mohawk Valley every year since 1924. The founders first met as a private club, rehearsing and performing in the attic of Lucille Worden’s home, and then for a time at the Klippel house on Barringer Road. In 1927 the group purchased the building that had served as the carriage house and stables on the Philo Remington estate. In this historic building, which has come to be referred to simply as “The Stables,” they constructed a stage and auditorium which are still in use today, although both have undergone considerable renovation. The building was placed on the national and state historical registries in 1976. The club became incorporated in 1930 as The Little Theatre Club of Ilion, NY, Inc. In 1968 the club’s performances were opened to the public through the sale of subscriptions. Today Ilion Little Theatre welcomes all adults who are interested in participating in community theater in any capacity, as either Active Members or Subscribers.
