Letter to the Editor: Democracy or Dictatorship, Hate or Compassion.

Are you as nimble as you were a decade ago? I’m not! I don’t walk as quickly or move as flexibly. I cautiously watch each step so I stay upright. Yes, I’ve walked into a room and momentarily forgot what I came to get. None of this hinders my ability to think, make decisions or research issues.

The basic principles on which our nation was built have never been in such danger.  At the Conservative Political Action Conference some admitted their failure to overturn democracy on January 6th. Now they promise to accomplish it with election in 2024.

Republicans have playbook, Project 2025 , to accomplish their plan it’s available for all to read. Take a look. I hope you will be as shocked as I was. The entire plan is antithetical to our democratic beliefs.

Add this to the Evangelical Christian Nationalists in Congress (Rep. Brandon Williams, Speaker Johnson) who believe church laws are above Constitutional laws. For the first time in our lives, we have had our freedoms reduced. I fear it’s only the beginning.

I want our children and, grandchildren and future generations to have the freedom to read and have factual history, reproductive healthcare, maintain voting rights and freely choose whom they love. I hope you also want those freedoms for all people.

We have an opportunity to make a choice between Democracy or Dictatorship, Hate or Compassion. I choose Democracy and Compassion. November will let us know where you stand.
