In their season opener, No. 3 Syracuse defeated No. 13 Stanford on Friday night by a final score of 12-9.

After trailing 3-1 early in the game, the Orange settled in and started to chip away, tying the game 6-6 at halftime.

A big reason for the run was the play of Meaghan Tyrrell, who had a hat trick in the second quarter and tallied six goals overall.

  • The win was the first for head coach Kayla Treanor

When the final horn sounded, SU took the opener by a final score of 12-9.

It was the first win for first-year head coach and Syracuse alumna Kayla Treanor.

“Honestly, I felt really comfortable,” Treanor said. “It’s a place I know really well, and it was great to watch the girls be able to play a game. I feel like we’ve been waiting a really long time to play somebody else. Stanford is a really great team, and this was a great test for us early in the season. I think the girls really responded and stepped up to the plate, and were able to finish and make big plays for us to win.”

Next up, SU will host Binghamton on Sunday. The opening draw for that will be at 1 p.m.
