Utica, NY (January 31, 2024) – James Meyers, 36 of Utica, NY, a Major in the Army Reserve , today announced his commitment to seeking the Democratic nomination for the 53rd District of the New York State Senate representing Oneida County, Madison County and northern Chenango County.
“I am proud and excited to announce my candidacy for the 53rd NYS Senate District. I grew up in an upstate New York, working-class family and look forward to propelling the 53rd District into a prosperous future,” stated Meyers.
Today’s announcement took place at American Legion Post # 229 on Herkimer Road in Utica.
“It is my privilege and pleasure to support James in his bid for the 53rd District Senate Seat. I believe he will serve our community with the same drive, commitment, and dedication with which he has been serving our country for the last decade,” stated Caroline Gable Reale, Oneida County Legislator.

Mr. Meyers received his undergraduate degree in history from the State University of New York at Brockport via an ROTC Scholarship. After graduation he accepted a commission as an active-duty intelligence officer, leading soldiers domestically as well as overseas. Following his discharge from active duty, he then joined the U.S. Army Reserve and currently holds the rank of Major. In 2015, he began a career as a program manager with Alion Science and Technology in Rome, NY. In 2020, Mr. Meyers received his Master of Science degree in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University in Bethesda, MD.
“I look forward to using the leadership experience that I have gained in the military along with my experience in managing multimillion dollar projects in the private sector, to help propel the 53rd District into a prosperous future”, stated Meyers.
