Oneida County Celebrates National Public Health Week April 7-13, 2025
National Public Health Week is celebrated each year during the first full week of April. It’s a time to recognize and highlight the contributions of public health. It starts here with each of us making a difference in how we live, work, and play in our homes and in our communities.
“The health and well-being of the residents of this county is a priority”, stated Anthony J. Picente, Jr., Oneida County Executive. “Our Health Department is vital in helping our community members make informed decisions on how to live their healthiest life.”
Daniel W. Gilmore, Ph.D., MPH, Director of Health explains, “Public Health is more than responding to a disease outbreak. It’s daily work to ensure our community has the information it needs, it is reducing environmental hazards, and helping people have access to the services they need.”
The Oneida County Health Department (OCHD) monitors the health of the community. OCHD provides services such as vaccines, car seats, and Narcan, and helps ensure the water you drink is clean and the food you eat at restaurants is safely prepared. OCHD helps the community stay safe after a disaster, such as flooding, has occurred. OCHD provides information on a variety of health topics and can also help connect individuals with the services available in the community.
We invite you to join us in celebrating National Public Health Week’s “It Starts Here: Knowledge is Health” by learning more about public health. OCHD staff will be tabling in the lobby of the Oneida County Office Building, 800 Park Avenue, Utica, offering fun facts, trivia questions, and health information on these dates:
- Today, Monday, April 7th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Friday, April 11th from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Also, follow OCHD on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/OCHDNY/. Health information is regularly posted along with upcoming events, and important notifications.
