Herkimer County reopens Child Advocacy Center with new updates

Herkimer County has a new place to take care of abused children. The county’s Child Advocacy Center is open again in a new building. The center had been closed during the pandemic, and they were able to take the time to expand and update their offices.

The center helps children and teens who have been the victim of sexual abuse or serious domestic violence.

“When you walk through, you will see how inviting it really is because these children are traumatized and they come into the really warm space and it is not clinical at all. It’s very welcoming, there are toys, Disney+, you know, it just makes them comfortable and hopefully be able to tell their story,” said Diane Stancato, CEO at the YMCA of the Mohawk Valley.

There are currently six full-time staff members, and they have offered services more than 6,000 times just this year in Herkimer County.
