Hamilton College Common Ground: Capitol Under Assault

The January 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol remains more contested on its fifth anniversary than it was on the day it occurred. The world saw what happened and subsequent investigations made clear why it happened. Yet, with the re-election of President Donald Trump and amnesty granted to the assault’s participants, January 6’s meaning to America isn’t history, but a partisan political issue.

Former U.S. Representative and Hamilton alumnus Matt Cartwright (D-PA) and former U.S. Representative Tom Rice (R-SC) had a front row seat to the mayhem and the president’s impeachment. They will share their memories and analysis at a Common Ground program at Hamilton College on Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the college’s Chapel.

Attendance is free and open to the public. Parking is available in lots on College Hill Road. The event will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/live/5qpkAxK6DuY

Hamilton alumnus Dave Chanatry, professor emeritus at Utica University and former producer at NBC News, will serve as the evening’s moderator.
