talk/performance by Monk Rowe, Director of the Filius Jazz Archive

with John Hutson and Tom McGrath

Wednesday, April 10, 2019,  7:30 pm at The Other Side, 2011 Genesee St., Utica.

Innovation is woven into the fabric of American culture, most notably in the creation of popular music.  Beginning in the early 1900’s, the melting pot that is America, linked with technological advancements, enabled the development of new styles in rapid succession.  Ragtime, blues, jazz, country, rock & roll, R&B, and hip hop all claim America authorship.  These genres have now been embraced and enhanced by musicians in every corner of the globe.   Monk Rowe, John Hutson, and Tom McGrath will perform popular songs from 8 decades of American music and link to examples of their global progeny.  Audience engagement with music trivia and Q&A will be encouraged!  Free and open to the public.  For information call 315 735-4825 or email kodomenico@verizon.net.
