“Getting it Right From the Start: Creating Great Landscapes” by Nina Bassuk, a professor at Cornell University’s Urban Horticulture Institute. She will discuss environmental resources that allow trees to grow to their envisioned ultimate size in an urban landscape.
Among her awards and honors, Bassuk is a 2015 recipient of the National Arbor Day Foundation’s Olmsted Award and the New York State Arborist Association Senior Scholar Award. She has co-authored several books and articles on environmental horticulture including Trees in the Urban Landscape, a text for landscape architects and horticultural practitioners on establishing trees in disturbed and urban landscapes.
Bassuk received her Ph.D. from the University of London. Her research improving the quality of urban life by enhancing the functions of plants within the urban ecosystem. She also works municipalities to assess and manage their urban tree resources while applying appropriate technologies.
Parking is available near the building. All Arboretum events are free and open to the public, and everyone interested in gardens and landscapes is encouraged to attend. Pre-registration is not required.
