Griffo statement on governor signing S.6233-A/A.6790-A into law

New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo released the following statement today after Gov. Kathy Hochul signed S.6233-A/A.6790-A into law. The bill, which was cosponsored by Sen. Griffo, increases the personal income tax credit from $200 to $800 for eligible individuals and from $400 to $1600 for eligible married joint filers for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers. The expanded credit will be available beginning in tax year 2027.
“Earlier this month, I was proud to stand with area firefighters and state legislators to push the governor to take action on this legislation. I am pleased that she has heeded our calls and advocacy and signed this bill into law. Raising the tax credit is one small way we can say ‘thank you’ to our first responders while also helping to bolster volunteer ranks for fire departments across New York.”
