Gansevoort Second Grade Class Tours the Sciortino Farm and the Buttenschon Christmas Tree Farm

June 14th, 2024—This week, the Gansevoort second grade class toured both the Sciortino Farm and the Buttenschon Christmas Farm.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the Gansevoort Elementary School faculty and the second-grade classes for visiting the farms,” said Assemblywoman Buttenschon. “Farming is one of the largest industries in New York State.  It is not just important, but crucial that we educate our children on farming and encourage them to pursue a career in agriculture. That is why the 2024-2025 enacted budget provides $58 million to the Department of Agriculture, an increase of $1.5 million from last year.”

The students first arrived at the Sciortino farm to learn about and interact with the different farm animals. They then participated in various stations set up around the farm. At the Buttenschon Christmas Tree Farm, students from the Gansevoort Elementary School learned the process of growing Christmas trees, the work that goes into maintaining the farm, and the different types of Christmas trees.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Sciortino farm for their firsthand knowledge that they shared with the students, as well as South Trenton and Clydesdale for bringing farm animals for our students to experience,” said Buttenschon.
