Dumfries Man Sentenced to Over 19 Years for Armed Robberies and Fentanyl Possession

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A Dumfries man, Dwayne Selman-Neville, 38, has been sentenced to 19 years and two months in federal prison for his involvement in a series of armed robberies and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and other controlled substances. The sentencing follows a string of crimes committed across Northern Virginia in March 2024.

A String of Armed Robberies Across Northern Virginia

According to court documents, Selman-Neville, along with co-conspirator Al Gibran Taylor, 42, of Reston, orchestrated multiple armed robberies targeting local businesses. On March 8, 2024, Taylor robbed a Starbucks in Herndon at gunpoint, fleeing with cash to a waiting Selman-Neville. Days later, Selman-Neville, disguised as an Amazon delivery driver, robbed a check-cashing store in Chantilly, threatening to kill a cashier who attempted to press a panic button.

The duo also attempted to rob a bank in Herndon on March 14, 2024, using a threatening note but fled before obtaining any money. Selman-Neville continued his spree, targeting another check-cashing store in Annandale and later robbing a Woodbridge store on March 27, 2024, again disguised as an Amazon delivery driver.

Arrest and Evidence Seized

Selman-Neville was arrested on April 15, 2024, after law enforcement searched a residence linked to him. Investigators recovered clothing used during the robberies, including an Amazon-branded vest, and a cache of drugs, including 280 counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine hydrochloride. Taylor had been arrested earlier on March 26, 2024, for an unrelated offense.

Law Enforcement Collaboration

The case was investigated by the FBI’s Washington Field Office, with assistance from the Fairfax County and Prince William County Police Departments. U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert praised the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in bringing Selman-Neville to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel K. Amzallag prosecuted the case.

This sentencing underscores the commitment of federal and local authorities to combat violent crime and drug trafficking. Selman-Neville’s actions not only endangered lives but also contributed to the ongoing opioid crisis through the distribution of fentanyl.
