Author reading event at Kirkland Art Center
CLINTON, NY – Utica-born Deirdre Sinnott returns to the region to promote her newest novel, The Loyalist’s Wife, set in the picturesque Mohawk Valley during the Revolutionary War. Ms. Sinnott will be at the Kirkland Art Center in Clinton on Saturday, July 18, at 12:00 noon to speak with the public and give a reading from the novel. Copies of her book will be available for purchase and signing. This event is free and open to the public and promises to be a fascinating look at a critical point in American history.
A Syracuse University graduate, Sinnott is a published author, historical researcher, and activist for social change. A sought-after public speaker on the history of abolition, Sinnott has also directed two documentaries on issues surrounding mass incarceration. She served as historical consultant for the Fort Stanwix Underground Railroad for the National Park Service and has written for a variety of journals and newspapers, including the Utica Observer-Dispatch.
The Loyalist’s Wife, set in the Mohawk Valley, examines the conflicting loyalties among neighbors, and even spouses, during the time of the Revolutionary War.

About the book:
It’s 1777 in New York’s fertile Mohawk Valley, and tenant farmers Jane and Philip Hopper have very different ideas about the war for independence that has consumed the 13 colonies. To Philip, rebellion against the king is appalling.
