
Governor Kathy Hochul and Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the arrest of individuals involved in a large-scale, multi-year organized retail theft operation. The operation, which stole nearly $2 million in merchandise, involved the first-ever charges under a newly enacted New York state law criminalizing the fostering of stolen goods sales. This law, part of Hochul’s five-point plan to combat retail theft, increases penalties for assaulting retail workers and provides funding for law enforcement and business security improvements. The investigation involved various law enforcement agencies and retailers.
