Audio Deep Dive: Bus overturns on Thruway near Rochester- I-490
A tour bus overturned on I-490 west of Rochester, New York, on the morning of November 7, 2024, prompting a large-scale emergency response and shutting down the highway in both directions. The accident occurred near Union Street in the Town of Chili. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, assisted by the New York State Police and the Department of Transportation. Multiple ambulances and first responders were dispatched to the scene.
The number of passengers on the bus and the extent of any injuries are not yet known. New York Governor Kathy Hochul released a statement confirming the accident involved a large bus with multiple passengers and urging drivers to avoid the area. She expressed her prayers for those involved and gratitude to the first responders. The I-490 was closed in both directions between exits 3 and 4 to allow first responders to work. Westbound lanes were later reopened.
