Cross Lake residents use boats, rafts to navigate post-flood

Residents in the Cross Lakes area are beginning to worry about their safety as they continue dealing with flood aftermath. Neighbors say this is the worst fall flooding they’ve ever seen, with water levels 6 feet above average.

Right now, roads in parts of the neighborhood are completely underwater. This has made it difficult for residents to drive their cars and now they’re relying on rafts and rowboats to get essential items.

Some people are fearing what may happen to those who rely on others for extra help.

“There’s a number of people on this lane, as many as nine people over the age of 75 and, you know, should there be a need to get them out. It’s a big concern,” said Joe Deverell, who lives in the area.

Those living in the area have contacted Cayuga County Emergency Management about their problems and say they have been responsive.
