Connect Ed NY, Inc. Launches “Growth Opportunities (GO) Program”

 

Utica/Rome, NY [November 2025] – Connect Ed NY, Inc., subsidiary corporation of CNY Health Home Network, in partnership with the International Youth Foundation (IYF) and the North Carolina Youth Violence Prevention Center, is proud to announce the launch of the Growth Opportunities (GO) Program, a new workforce and leadership initiative for justice-involved youth ages 15-24 in Central New York (Oneida, Madison and Herkimer County) and Lumberton, North Carolina. The program began in July 2025 and aims to
provide tangible pathways to employment, education, and positive community engagement.
Young people referred to the GO program will participate in paid internships, leadership development, mentorship, and workforce readiness coaching. Up to $3,000 in paid work experience (200 hours) is covered per participant, along with supplemental support and training. “Our goal is to create a supportive community pathway for youth to thrive and succeed in life beyond the justice system. This will create a foundation of life skills and create a pathway for career success” said Connect Ed Executive Director, Danielle Martin.

Program Features & Benefits

1. Paid work experience: Internships of up to 200 hours, with participants earning up to $3,000.

2. Leadership training: Through the “Pathway to Success” curriculum, participants gain essential life and leadership skills.

3. Mentorship & coaching: Workforce readiness guidance and support as participants transition to further education or careers.

4. Exposure to real-world job settings: Interns immerse in practical workplace environments under support and supervision.

5. Support for college or career goals: The program helps youth chart clear next steps after completion.

Eligibility & Referrals

To participate, individuals must:

1. Be between 15 and 24 years old

2. Be justice-involved or at risk of involvement with the juvenile justice system

3. Reside in Oneida County or surrounding areas

Call to Businesses: Become a Worksite Partner

Local businesses are invited to join the effort as internship hosts. Key benefits for participating organizations include:

1. No cost to the business: All wages are covered by the GO Program (via federal grant funding).

2. Pre-screened, supported interns: Interns are vetted and assisted by GO staff.

3. Ongoing staff support: GO staff provide guidance and coordination throughout the internship.

4. Simple participation requirements: Businesses provide a welcoming workplace environment, basic skill-building tasks, mentorship, and a commitment to a 200-hour placement (with flexible scheduling).
