Community Workshop to Educate and Mobilize Central NY Residents

Syracuse, NY (July 16, 2025) — This Saturday, July 19, local labor, environmental, and community organizations will host an interactive Community Workshop to help Central New York residents better understand the environmental review process for Micron Technology’s proposed semiconductor facility in Clay, NY.

The event will provide critical information about the project’s potential environmental, health and community impacts and empower participants to engage in the official public comment process before the August 11 deadline. Attendees will also be briefed on how to prepare for the public hearing hosted by federal and county officials on Thursday, July 24.

In addition, participants will learn about the Community Vision for Strong Environmental, Resident and Worker Protections, a plan developed by local advocates to ensure Micron delivers on its promises without harming communities or the environment.

WHAT: Community Workshop on Micron DEIS (Draft Environmental Impact Statement)

WHO: Hosted by Jobs to Move America, with support from partners including Sustain CNY and other local labor, community and environmental organizations

WHEN: Saturday, July 19, 12-2 p.m.

WHERE: May Memorial Unitarian Universalist Society, 3800 E Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13214

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Micron, set to receive up to $20 billion in public subsidies, plans to build the largest microchip manufacturing site in U.S. history in Central NY. The company has promised thousands of jobs, but the community is waiting to hear more specifics about how Micron plans to mitigate potential environmental harms of the project.

During this critical public comment period led by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency, this workshop is a chance for residents to get informed, get organized, and push Micron to maximize the community benefits of this massive project.
