Community Foundation Awards $15,000 to Support Age-Friendly Work in Herkimer County

Herkimer, NY, December 10, 2025 — Herkimer County HealthNet, Inc. (HCHN) has received a $15,000 grant from The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties to advance the Age-Friendly Herkimer County initiative. The funding will help implement priority projects from the county’s Age-Friendly Action Plan, including the new Herkimer Home Safety Guide, intergenerational events, digital literacy supports, volunteer engagement, transportation awareness, and expanded outreach for aging and caregiver resources.

“We are grateful for The Community Foundation’s long-standing partnership and dedication to strengthening our community,” said Elyse Enea, HCHN Executive Director. “This support accelerates the work our residents told us matters most—creating welcoming, age-friendly environments where older adults feel supported, connected, and able to thrive.”

“Herkimer County HealthNet’s commitment to building age-friendly communities plays an important role in ensuring that all residents feel safe, comfortable, and valued,” said Joe Wicks, Community Investment Strategic Manager at the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties. “The Community Foundation is proud to support their efforts to create inclusive spaces where older adults can remain active, independent, and engaged.”

Age-Friendly Herkimer County promotes access to services, supports, and opportunities for people as they age, and encourages the inclusion and participation of older adults in all aspects of life. This work builds on Herkimer County’s recent AARP Age-Friendly Community designation, recognizing local commitment to livable, inclusive communities for all ages.
