Honored as 2024 CLRC Award Winners

CENTRAL NY  October 10, 2024 — The Central NY Library Resources Council (CLRC) is proud to announce the winners of its 2024 Library Awards. In their nineth year, these awards recognize exemplary libraries, archives, museums and their staff in Onondaga, Oneida, Herkimer and Madison County. This year’s winners are:  Jervis Public Library Named CLRC 2024 Library of the Year

Jervis Public Library serves as a cornerstone of community engagement, continually offering innovative programs and services for its patrons. The library even operates a ticket booth for school and local events, further strengthening its ties to the community. In a unique display of resourcefulness, the library helped reunite lost airline luggage by identifying books purchased at their book sale and sharing the discovery on social media. They hosted a variety of popular programs, including Summer Reading, solar eclipse viewings, job fairs, and educational classes on topics such as puberty, babysitting, and youth mental health.

After the tornado on July 16, 2024, the staff at Jervis Library quickly implemented safety protocols, sheltering and comforting patrons during the storm. In the aftermath, the library became a critical community resource, reopening the next day to assist with device charging, document assistance, and hosting vital services like a legal clinic and office hours with National Grid. The staff’s unwavering commitment to serving everyone ensures that, whenever a patron’s needs intersect with the library’s resources, they will receive the guidance and assistance they need. Diana Cassulis, Mid York Library System, Named CLRC 2024 Library Staff All-Star

Diana has made a profound and lasting impact through her unwavering commitment to promoting education, building community connections, and enriching library-patron experiences. As part of the Mid-York Library System, she travels extensively across public libraries in Herkimer, Madison, and Oneida Counties, offering guidance and fostering collaboration to enhance community resources. Diana has successfully secured grant opportunities, created innovative storytime materials, and provided hands-on support for Summer Reading Programs and outreach initiatives. Her dedication is evident in her months-long effort to purchase, catalog, and distribute thousands of dollars’ worth of sports equipment funded by a Wadas Foundation grant. Diana tirelessly works to ensure that libraries across the Mid-York system receive the support and services they need.
