Chief Russel Brooks Laid to Rest 1948-2024
A Mass of Christian Burial for Fire Chief Russel E. Brooks took place today, June 10 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph’s and St. Patrick’s Church in Utica. The service was concelebrated by Fr. Amadeo Guida and retired Fire Department Chaplain, Fr. Joseph Salerno.
Chief Brooks served the Utica Fire Department from 1975 through his retirement in 2018. Dignitaries, elected officials and grateful citizens filled the church with respect and gratitude for his lifetime of service which included his military service, his fortitude during 911 and his service to the city’s poor and hungry.
The Chief’s son, Casey Brooks, led the legion of Bagpipers through the service. Television cameras captured the entire service for the evening news. The church organist and choir carried the musical selections and Irish harpist and soloist, Deirdre McCarthy provided two very special selections in remembrance of this proud Irishman.
May you rest in peace, Chief Brooks.
