CFLR’s Spring Take Back Day – A Community Initiative

The Center for Family Life and Recovery (CFLR) in collaboration with Oneida County Law Enforcement is gearing up for their Spring Take Back Day, a community initiative aimed at safely disposing of unused medications. This event, scheduled for April 27th, 2024, at 321 Main Street Utica, NY, provides a convenient drive-through option for residents to return expired prescription medications, sharps, and even pet medications.

CFLR’s efforts are part of the Oneida County Prevention Services program, designed to reduce the availability of opioids in local communities and combat misuse and abuse. By partnering with law enforcement agencies and distributing free HOPE bags filled with essential resources, CFLR is not only facilitating safe disposal but also raising awareness about the dangers of improper medication handling.

According to Cassandra Sheets, CFLR’s Executive Director, the success of these take back events highlights the community’s growing awareness of the risks associated with unused medications. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that a significant percentage of opioid overdoses stem from prescription drugs, making initiatives like CFLR’s Spring Take Back Day crucial in safeguarding public health.

By participating in CFLR’s Take Back Day, individuals contribute to keeping harmful substances out of circulation and away from potential misuse. The event will feature Narcan trainers and Deterra bags, emphasizing the importance of responsible medication disposal.

Center for Family Life and Recovery, Inc. remains committed to advocacy, prevention, counseling, and employee assistance programs. Their dedication to supporting individuals and families dealing with addiction, mental health challenges, and behavioral issues underscores their mission to inspire hope, provide help, promote wellness, and transform lives.
