Celebrating National Dog Day with Flash and Logan
As the clock strikes 4 PM, I eagerly pack up my things and head out of the office, excited to celebrate National Dog Day with my two lovable Beagles, Flash and Logan. This special day, celebrated annually on August 26th, was established in 2004 by Colleen Paige, a pet and family lifestyle expert, to honor our furry friends and raise awareness about the importance of adopting dogs from shelters. For me, it’s the perfect excuse to spoil my two hounds even more than usual.

Flash and Logan are not just any dogs; they are the epitome of Beagle-ness. With their endless stomachs, they would eat until they explode if given the chance. As I open the front door, I’m greeted by the familiar sound of paws skidding across the floor. Flash and Logan come barreling towards me, their tails wagging furiously. They knock me over in their excitement, sniffing me like the hounds they are, trying to determine if I’ve been hanging out with other dogs or, more importantly, if I have any food on me.
After the initial chaos subsides, I manage to get up and give them both a good belly rub. Their eyes light up with joy, and I can almost hear them thinking, “It’s National Dog Day! What treats do you have for us?” I head to the kitchen and pull out their favorite snacks. Flash and Logan sit obediently, their eyes glued to the treats in my hand. I can’t help but laugh at their intense focus.
Once they’ve devoured their snacks, it’s time for our evening walk. I grab their leashes, and they start bouncing around with excitement. Walking Flash and Logan is always an adventure. They bark at everything that moves, especially other dogs. I often wish I had a muzzle for them, but their enthusiasm is part of their charm. As we step outside, the cool evening air greets us, and we set off on our usual route.
Flash and Logan’s noses are constantly to the ground, sniffing every blade of grass and every tree trunk. They pull me in different directions, each one convinced they’ve found the most interesting scent. We pass by a neighbor walking their dog, and Flash and Logan go into overdrive, barking and wagging their tails furiously. The other dog looks slightly bewildered, but its owner smiles and waves.
“Sorry about that,” I say, trying to keep Flash and Logan under control. “They’re just very friendly.”
The neighbor laughs. “No worries. They seem like sweet dogs.”
We continue our walk, and I can’t help but feel grateful for these two furry companions. Flash and Logan have a way of making even the most mundane activities feel special. As we round the corner, we come across a group of kids playing in their yard. Flash and Logan immediately start wagging their tails and pulling towards the kids, who are more than happy to give them some attention.
“Can we pet your dogs?” one of the kids asks.
“Of course,” I reply, and Flash and Logan eagerly lick the hands and faces of any stranger who lets them. The kids giggle and pet them, and Flash and Logan soak up the affection.
After a few more minutes of playtime, we continue our walk. By the time we get back home, Flash and Logan are panting happily, their energy finally starting to wane. I fill their water bowls, and they drink greedily before flopping down on their beds.
As they settle in for a well-deserved nap, I reflect on the significance of National Dog Day. It’s a day to celebrate the unconditional love and companionship that dogs bring into our lives. It’s also a reminder of the importance of adopting dogs from shelters and giving them a loving home. Flash and Logan may not have come from a shelter, but they have certainly enriched my life in countless ways.
To end the day on a high note, I decide to give Flash and Logan one last treat. I pull out their favorite chew toys and watch as they happily gnaw on them, their tails wagging contentedly. As I sit back and watch them, I can’t help but smile. National Dog Day is a wonderful reminder of just how special our furry friends are.
So, here’s to Flash and Logan, and to all the dogs out there who bring joy and love into our lives. Happy National Dog Day! 🐾
I hope you and your Beagles have a fantastic National Dog Day! If you have any other plans or ideas for celebrating, I’d love to hear about them.
