UTICA, NY – Oneida County History Center and the Bosnian American Community Association (BACA) invite the public to commemorate Bosnian and Herzegovina Statehood Day with a special presentation on the nation’s rich and complex history at Oneida County History Center on Thursday, November 20, at 6:00 PM.
Sandro Sehic, PhD. explains the history of Bosnian statehood and the factors that contributed to the immigration of Bosnians to Utica, NY, and Oneida County, and will specifically address the critical question: Why did so many Bosnians settle and build a new life in the Utica area?
This program is presented by BACA, a nonprofit committed to promoting and empowering Bosnian American heritage and unity in Utica, NY through education, cultural engagement, and active community involvement. This event offers a valuable opportunity to honor the Bosnian community and deepen understanding of a vital part of the Mohawk Valley’s cultural landscape.
About the Speaker: Dr. Sandro Sehic brings a powerful local and professional perspective to the topic. He was born in Bosnia and came to Utica in 1995. He is a graduate of Thomas R. Proctor High School and holds a Ph.D. in education from Northcentral University. He currently works as a social studies teacher for Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES.
