Cassandra Harris Lockwood’s “Putin Slam”
“Vladimir Putin, you know you’re wrong,” says Cassandra Harris Lockwood, Central New York’s most prominent civil rights activist and the voice of the Black community in the Mohawk Valley. In her poem “Putin Slam” she takes on Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin for his atrocities in Ukraine.
“You’re a thug you’re a bum, you’re a sinner and a scum,” she rhymes, “You’re the Czar of Destruction and monstrous disruption.”
“In the Black tradition when you don’t like someone, when you’ve got something to say about someone you ‘bust’ it out.” Harris Lockwood explained on a March 11, 2024, episode of 95.5 FM “The Heat’s” The Hot Seat. “They used to call it ‘counting the dozens.'”
The poem is written and performed by Cassandra Harris Lockwood. The video was produced by Anthony Gray.
