Carthage community mourns loss Tyler Christman

The Carthage community gathered Saturday to remember Tyler Christman, the 14-year-old boy who died after being injured in a football game last weekend.

The parking lot at Evans Mills Speedway was packed for the memorial service.

Many wore shirts with the numbers 27 or 12, both numbers he wore on his jersey.

Family, friends and teachers spoke about his love for sports, and their love for him.

“Tyler will forever be my hero,” said his cousin, Sophia Bauden. “Even though our miracle did not come true, he will make other familes’ miracle come true. He gave the world’s best gift, the gift of life. Life will never be the same without him. But he would not want anyone to not live their life to the fullest because of him.”

Tyler’s organs were donated, keeping his legacy alive in others.
