UTICA, N.Y. – The Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) is holding its Function Better Program through Friday, July 26. Function Better is a hands-on learning experience focused on the development of independent living and executive functioning skills for children and teens who are blind or visually impaired.
During this week-long residential program, children learn about assistive technology, explore modes of transportation, develop daily living skills, try meal preparation, and experiment with money management.
On Thursday, July 25, students will explore public transportation by taking a Centro bus from the CABVI Vision Health and Wellness Center to a grocery store with the help of orientation and mobility instructors. They will learn how to safely board the bus, pay for the trip, and how to navigate their way through the store to complete the grocery list they’ve created.
