Brushton Man Arrested Following Alleged Assault and Strangulation in Massena

MASSENA, N.Y. — A Brushton man has been arrested after New York State Police say he assaulted and strangled another person during an altercation at Beach Marina in the Town of Massena.
According to State Police, Corey D. LaPlant, 48, of Brushton, was arrested on June 30, 2026, and charged with Second-Degree Strangulation, a felony, and Third-Degree Assault, a misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred the previous evening. (New York State Police)
Altercation Reported at Beach Marina
Troopers said they responded to Beach Marina at approximately 8:31 p.m. on June 29 after receiving a report of a physical altercation.
Investigators allege that LaPlant became irate during the incident and repeatedly struck the victim in the face. Police further allege that he placed the victim in a rear chokehold, restricting the person’s ability to breathe. (New York State Police)
Suspect Located After Leaving the Scene
According to investigators, LaPlant left the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Following the investigation, New York State Police located him, placed him under arrest, and processed him at the State Police barracks in Massena. (New York State Police)

State Police said LaPlant was arraigned in the Town of Massena Court and was released under the supervision of probation pending further court proceedings. (New York State Police)
