UTICA, NY — November 15, 2025 — The Bosnian Community Center of Central New York
(BCC) is proud to announce the grand opening of its new community space at 729
Broadway, Utica, marking a historic milestone for the region’s Bosnian-American community and the broader Mohawk Valley.
The grand opening celebration will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, with local
officials, community leaders, and guests from across the United States in attendance. The
event will commemorate Bosnian Statehood Day (November 25) and highlight the
community’s continued contributions to the cultural, economic, and civic life of Central New
York.
“This center represents unity, progress, and the next generation of community leadership,”
said Elvisa Alikadic, LMSW, Founder and Executive Director of the Bosnian Community
Center. “Our goal is to create a space that preserves our cultural heritage while fostering
education, inclusion, and collaboration for all residents of the Mohawk Valley.”
The BCC will serve as a multifunctional hub dedicated to:
• Cultural preservation and education
• Youth and family programming
• Mental health and wellness services
• Language and adult education
• Entrepreneurship and community development initiatives
The establishment of the Bosnian Community Center reflects over three decades of
Bosnian-American contributions in Oneida County — one of the largest Bosnian-American
populations per capita in the United States.
The project was developed in partnership with the City of Utica Center for Development,
with support from community members, volunteers, and local businesses. The new logo,
designed by Alen Smajic, symbolizes the Center’s vision of connection, tradition, and growth — combining the Bosnian colors of navy and gold with modern design elements that
embody trust, pride, and unity.
Media representatives, elected officials, and community partners are invited to attend the
grand opening ceremony. A full program schedule and list of speakers will be released closer to the event date.
