ROME, N.Y. — The MVILR Fall Open House and Senior Showcase will bring lifelong learning, community resources and social opportunities together under one roof on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mohawk Valley Community College Rome Campus. The free event will give current and prospective members a chance to explore MVILR’s fall offerings, meet facilitators, learn about services for older adults and register for the new semester. The fall term begins Sept. 21.
53 Classes, 43 Facilitators and More Than 350 Hours of Programming
The Mohawk Valley Institute for Learning in Retirement has 53 courses and special programs planned for the fall semester. Those offerings will be led by 43 facilitators and represent more than 350 hours of programming.
Courses and activities will cover a wide range of interests, including:
- Lifelong learning and current events
- History and literature
- Music and the arts
- Health, wellness and fitness
- Technology
- Travel and local culture
- Community engagement
- Arts and crafts
Many facilitators are expected to attend the Open House, giving visitors an opportunity to ask questions, learn what individual classes will cover and decide which programs best fit their interests.
“We are excited to welcome both returning and new members as we begin another year of lifelong learning,” MVILR Program Coordinator Chris Sunderlin said. “Whether you are interested in history, art, wellness, music, technology, travel, or simply meeting new friends, there is something for everyone.”
Senior Showcase Will Connect Older Adults With Local Resources
The Open House will also include a Senior Showcase featuring more than 27 community organizations, nonprofits and local businesses that serve older adults in the Mohawk Valley.
Information tables will highlight community services, volunteer opportunities, programs and resources. The showcase is designed to make it easier for older adults and their families to learn about help and opportunities available locally while also discovering MVILR’s educational and social programs.
Light refreshments will be available throughout the event.
How to Register for MVILR Fall Classes
Participants may register for MVILR classes during the Sept. 10 Open House or online through MVILR.org.
Printed and digital course catalogs are expected to be available shortly before the Open House and will also be available during the event.
MVILR’s annual membership fee is $265. The fee includes access to fall, winter, spring and summer programming, along with special events and member activities. Membership may be paid online or in person at the Open House.

MVILR is a community of lifelong learners focused on intellectual growth, social engagement and personal enrichment. Its programming gives retired and semi-retired adults opportunities to continue learning, explore new interests and build connections with others in the community.
