American Red Cross Aids 21 After Herkimer Fire

UTICA, NY (MAY 5, 2022)—Volunteers from the Central & Northern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to 21 people after a multi-family fire early Thursday morning on North Main Street in Herkimer.

The Red Cross provided financial assistance for necessities such as shelter, food, and clothing to 17 adults and four children, ages 5, 6, 8, and 12. Volunteers also offered emotional support, health services, and comfort kits containing personal care items. At least one resident is eligible for Veterans’ services. In the coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those affected by the fire as they navigate the road to recovery.
