Albany County saw its highest one-day rise in new reported COVID-19 infections since mid-January, according to officials.
County Executive Dan McCoy reported Wednesday that 299 new positive cases have been identified in Albany County in the last day; that’s the highest, he says, since 351 new cases were reported on Jan. 12. There are now 1,048 active COVID-19 cases in the county, with two more deaths reported, bringing Albany County’s death toll to 467 since the start of the pandemic.
“This virus continues to spread at an alarming rate, and it continues to take the lives of our residents – two more since yesterday. It’s still unclear how these infections will impact our hospital system and we need to take more precautions to protect our community,” McCoy said.
There are 61 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the county, with eight new hospitalizations in the last day. Of those 61, eight are in intensive care.
“As we approach Christmas and New Year’s, I’m strongly urging everyone to get vaccinated and get their booster shots, to wear masks indoors, and to get a COVID test before their gather with family and friends,” McCoy said.
