People First Puts Citizenship and Service into Action on MLK Day 2022 AmeriCorps Members & Volunteers Distribute Winter Clothing to Homeless as part of MLK Day
Utica, New York — People First AmeriCorps members and local residents will step up to serve as volunteers on the annual Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Volunteers will distribute winter clothing such as coats, hats, gloves as well as blessing bags to the homeless, joining hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country in volunteer service.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a defining moment each year when Americans across the country step up to make communities more equitable, underpin racial equity, expand civic opportunities, and foster respect for individual differences. Citizens will take action to create the Beloved Community of Dr. King’s dream.
On January 17, between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Salvation Army, 14 Clinton Place, Utica, People First, and its community partners will host a winter clothing giveaway with donations courtesy of Trinity United Methodist Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church, Veterans Outreach Center, and the Central New York Labor Agency.
“Today we answer Dr. King’s call to serve and are making a difference in the lives of Central New York residents,” said Dave Zogby, People First AmeriCorps Director. “A resourceful way to meet local needs, volunteer service is a powerful tool that builds strong communities. We are putting the core American principles of citizenship and service into action.”
People can volunteer by calling 315-982.3731 or emailing celenalamericorps@gmail.com.
