A Poem – Insurrection Day

Insurrection Day   By Roger Chambers

Election held with ballots cast
How do we know it’s not the last
time at polls to freely vote,
ending on a dissonant note,
abhorrent taste so sour.
Results rejected at the top
thus free and fair elections stop
as leadership, much like a king
resolves to do most anything
to stay in power.
It is the time to take a stand
and give to allies helping hand
so such outrages don’t repeat.
It may not be so short and sweet
but surely ’tis the hour.
A call to violence, not always just.
Continued bald-faced lies! We must
rise up and change the course
even reply, perhaps with force,
speak and act with truth to power.
