WHAT:
To commemorate New York State’s official recognition of July as Ice Cream Month with an official New York State
Resolution, Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon will host her annual Ice Cream Month Kick-Off Celebration in Utica.
During the event, she will present the formal Legislative Resolution recognizing the economic, cultural, and nutritional
importance of ice cream and the dairy industry in New York.
This year’s celebration will take place at Kookie’s Q & Creamery, a delicious ice cream shop, as a way to support a small
business while also honoring the generations of dairy farmers who make this summertime tradition possible.
As Chair of the Assembly’s Small Businesses Committee and Subcommittee on Export Trade; and a member of the
Agriculture Committee, Assemblywoman Buttenschon remains a strong supporter of New York’s agricultural economy.
The resolution she sponsored highlights how ice cream, a product rooted in dairy farming, plays a unique role in both our
state’s history and its economic landscape, generating over $1.9 billion in direct wages annually and employing thousands
of New Yorkers, according to the International Dairy Foods Association.
Following the presentation, Assemblywoman Buttenschon will treat attendees to a complimentary scoop of ice cream in
celebration of Ice Cream Month.
